For sixty years, PENTA has been a national and international market leader in the field of
electromechanical, electrical and electronic protection.

Who we are

PENTA for over 50 years has been designing and manufacturing devices and instruments for the protecion from the electrical risk in the:
electric distribution LV-MV-HV    |    railway traction    |    subway, tramway, trolley-bus way traction
for almost twenty years PENTA has been working in the redaction of the national and international CEI and IEC-TC 78 standards concerning the earthing and short circuit devices, insulating tubes and voltage detectors.

Quality of the materials

Quality of the materials

When the first aim is the safety, there is no room for compromises. The constant attention and check on the features of the raw materials and on the working processes become a real plus for their daily use in terms of reliability and duration in time, in every situation. Every product can thus offer an affective value, fully complying with the customer’s expectations.

Research & development

Research & development

The passion for the innovation and the optimization allowed us a constant state of the art attitude. Either in the mechanics or in the electronics we’ve been able to introduce solutions even where it seemed to be impossible, thanks to the studies done by an inner team dedicated to the design. Our participation in the redaction of the national CEI norms and standards and IEC international is an evidence of this skill.

Experience & specialization

Experience & specialization

The safety devices requires the examination of different technical aspects such as mechanical, electric and even ergonomic and operative aspects that are peculiar for each device. This requires a special skill and knowledge that can be acquired only after years of expertise and constant comparison with the different needs. The high level of peculiarity in the use of each device makes it incomparable to other similar solutions and allows the offer of unique technical features (insulations, short circuit currents).

Adaptability versatility

Adaptability versatility

The high number of the potential applications related to the electric safety requires a particular attention to the different needs. Our constant concern and availability to a dialogue with the ones who use the devices, through the examination of the needs, the recommendation and the common search for the best possible solution. We can even find eventually variations if it’s needed, in order to upgrade a product according to a specific use and to get the necessary electric and functional features needed

World

1957

OTTOTECNICA was founded as a foundry for non-ferrous materials, and its name means brass technology.

1967

Alongside Enel, founded in 1962, Penta started to design and manufacture earthing and short-circuit devices, as well as moulding and machining brass terminal blocks and disconnectors on insulating steatite supports.

1977

PENTA continued to develop its expertise in electrical protection. In the same years, still working alongside Enel and then Ferrovie, production of hot-forged and compression-forged fibreglass products began.

1987

Alongside the development of electrical safety devices, Penta's R&D staff are profitably developing innovative energy-saving systems for public lighting, cathodic protection for underground metal structures and voltmetric protection systems for rail traction, which will be inserted into fibreglass containers already developed.

1997

PENTA achieves relevant results in the electronic sector with the development, in addition to the electronic capacitive unipolar voltage detectors, also of amperometric clamps with open toroid, phase comparators with aerial radiofrequency and for insulated switchgears with sulfur hexafluoride.

2007

Between late 90s and early 2000s, Penta contributes significantly with Enel to complete the unification of the MV LV EA0320 tables: a new way of conceiving the earthing and short circuiting through the use of the “4th clamp” and the “concomitant voltage detection”.

2017

In recent years there has been a strong commitment to R&D, leading to the emergence of several innovative products targeted at the global market. In the electric distribution area, Penta focuses on High Voltage designing and manufacturing the electric field voltage detectors and the new earthing and short circuit lance devices for HV substations. In the electric traction area, other new products are introduced, such as the meter for the height and geometry and residual thickness of the catenary-contact lines and the innovative earthing and short circuit device for electric traction with foldable jaw and torque tightening.

Between 2017 and the 2019 Railway Expo, PENTA reaps great technological achievements by collaborating with Nokia on an ambitious project to design, manufacture and supply telephone equipment intended for unmanned RFI crossings. In April 2019, it joins the French NOVARC Group, a renowned brand operating for decades on a global scale in the field of electrical protection. At Expo in October 2019 in Milan, PENTA successfully presents new materials and innovative instrumentation aimed at increasing personnel safety and improving operating conditions.
